World of Goods Resale Store on FacebookThe launch of the World of Goods Facebook page in March 2011 brought an overwhelming increase in support and interest in the local resale store.  Daily posts of in-stock items as they arrive has created a fast-growing following of shoppers looking for a deal and wanting to be the first one to jump on it. (Don’t miss out – check out what has arrived today!)  Furthermore, in response to the ongoing trend of moving to all things web-based, World of Goods has launched a new online presence through the use of online selling tools which includes E-Bay Giving Works and the NEW Facebook Marketplace.  To the staff’s surprise, it is already a huge success.

The resale store has always had the unique niche of selling fantastic furniture items compared to other local resale stores.  Every week, the store receives numerous donations of high-end and relatively new furniture pieces from generous donors.  These items are among some of the top brands or sellers in furniture – Ethan Allen, Thomasville, Baker, McGuire, and the list goes on. E-Bay was the first place thought of by the WOG staff to bring these items to more shoppers by increasing their marketing abilities to not just those physically visiting the store, but to all who might be interested in furniture on the web.

E-Bay Giving Works is an outlet through E-Bay giving non-profit organizations the ability to sell items online that can be 100% donated to their cause as well as give sellers the opportunity to list their own items and donate a % of their sales (from 1-100%) to a non-profit as well. So, supporters can contribute to Catholic Charities of Dallas by buying or selling items donating a few dollars or giving 100% of the final sale as a donation!

The second online tool, suggested by World of Goods Sells on Facebook MarketplaceDeloitte during their annual IMPACT DAY service project earlier this June 2011, was a newly launched outlet by Facebook, called Facebook Marketplace.  The new application allows individuals to post items for sale allowing other Facebook users to claim any interest they have about the item, or make an offer for it.  Unlike E-Bay, there is no online transaction done or bidding process. It is simply a tool to bring these items to a larger audience online creating a better marketing strategy.

The new online presence has produced great results not only with the increase in donations to Catholic Charities of Dallas, but it has also increased awareness of the mission of our organization and has already brought more supporters to our cause.
