For many of our Saner students, the only thing that stands between them and hunger each week-day is a nutritious meal provided at the Saner Early Childhood Center of Catholic Charities of Dallas located in West Dallas. As a part of the regularly scheduled program activities, each child is provided 2 meals: Breakfast and Lunch, as well as 2 snacks per day, Monday through Friday. But what about the weekend?
Chronic hunger has an overall affect on the health and education of children, especially at the crucial early age and stage of learning. The Saner Backpack Donation Program provides children with weekend access to healthy food that helps them learn and grow. In addition, it provides the entire family access to easily prepared snacks and food so the entire family can flourish.
“The parents are grateful for the weekend backpacks and were so excited to see what was inside the first time we distributed them!” shared Jennifer Livas, Saner Program Manager. “It is such a wonderful thing to see a smile that means gratitude and relief.”
Help a Saner Student and donate today to the Saner Backpack Donation Program. Only $25 will provide 5 students with food for an entire weekend!
Also, those interested in donating actual food items are welcome to do so and drop off at ANY CCD location! Donation items needed include: inexpensive meals that are non-perishable, and nutritious; pasta and marinara sauce, macaroni and cheese, tomato, vegetable and chicken noodle soups, cereal, breakfast bars, pancake mix and syrup, chili, rice and beans, etc.
